Off road biking – Experience tranquillity, scenic views and exceptional wine!
The Mosel is renowned as one of the world’s top wine regions. What better way to experience the dramatic transformation of grapes into a bottle of wine than on a ride through the vineyards? On our leisurely cycling journey of just 20-30km per day, each day’s sees your baggage transported ahead to your accommodation allowing you to fully enjoy your ride.
We have combined cross country biking with quality accommodation including breakfast and packed lunches if requested. Detailed maps highlight track information and height profile of the individual tour. Varying from 27 – 77 km and from 800 – 2000 metres of climbing the area offers scope for all abilities.
Day 1: Transfer from airport Frankfurt Hahn or Luxembourg International to our guest house located on the cycle path of the Roman Wine Route. Here we will provide you with your bikes. On a circular tour through the vineyards you will enjoy total tranquility and stunning views. After your ride you might feel in the mood to relax with a nice glass of local Riesling wine at your accommodation or one of the many local Strausswirtschaften (viticulturists granted a special license). Cycling distance: ca. 30 km
Day 2: After breakfast you’ll head out of the village into the vineyards. The steady short climb will soon be awarded by magnificent views over the Mosel. You will pedal through lush pine forests and brook valleys before dropping down to the Mosel again where you will be welcomed in the picturesque wine village of Trittenheim. Here you’ll have plenty of opportunity to try the superb Mosel Riesling wines at a pre-arranged wine tasting at the estate. Cycling distance: ca. 30 km
Day 3: Today we follow the meandering of the Mosel for a short while before heading back into the vineyards and its breathtaking views. You will enjoy the ride through untouched countryside before arriving at the romantic small town of Bernkastel-Kues. You will love exploring this town which could be straight from Grimm’s fairy tale ‘Hänsel and Gretel’. There’ll be no witch, but a medicine called ‘Doctor’, named after reviving an archbishop from his deathbed. Today the ‘Doctor Weinstube’ produces and serves one of the finest wines on the Mosel and we’d suggest taking a glass to stay in shape and good health. Cycling distance: ca. 30 km
Day 4: Today there’s just enough time to squeeze in a circular tour to the Art Nouveau town of Traben-Trarbach before your taxi will take you back to the airport. Cycling distance: ca. 20 km
